Consultation Process
-
The first appointment will take about 40-45minutes. I will take a case history detailing the present complaint and general medical history. On the first appointment, you will be asked to remove some clothes so I can assess your posture in detail. Then you may be asked to do some simple movements so I can determine where the problem stems from. Some medical examinations may be appropriate at this point. The osteopathic assessment looks at you as an individual in order to understand why the problem has developed. I do perform treatment in the first appointment and it is gentle, as I have found these types of techniques to be very effective. After the first treatment people sometimes experience some discomfort similar to that after exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Generally, after treatment people find that their symptoms have either disappeared or are much more manageable. People often find they have more energy and a feeling of well-being.
-
Follow-up appointments take up to 30 minutes. People usually need 3 to 4 appointments to address a specific problem. Some people find that regular treatment over a long period is what they need to keep them well. The aim of treatment is to stop or reduce symptoms as soon as possible and then provide you with tools to prevent recurrence of symptoms.
